VenuesWest provide some of Perth's best aquatic facilities with years of valuable experience to share with the next generation. 

To facilitate the growth of industry we offer supervised training hours for swim instructors and lifeguards, with the hope of retaining individuals for employment. Providing some of the most renowned aquatic centres to the athletes and community from Perth and beyond, you couldn't be in a better place to start your career. 

 

Swim School Instructor

 

Teaching swim lessons can be a very rewarding job, with flexible hours to suit those studying or working towards a tertiary qualification.

How do I become an instructor?

To become a swimming instructor the following three accreditations and checks are required:

  1. An accredited water safety qualification - Courses are available through AustSwim and Royal Life Saving WA
  2. Working with Children Check (WWC)
  3. CPR certification - A current CPR certification will be required to receive your water safety qualification

Lifeguard

 

This qualification could be your entry into an exciting career in the aquatic recreation industry, or provide a great opportunity to support yourself during your study for a tertiary qualification.

How do I become a Lifeguard?

To become a lifeguard the following accreditations and checks are required:

  1. A current Pool Lifeguard Certificate - Courses are available through Royal Life Saving WA.
  2. First Aid and CPR certification

If you have completed your Pool Lifeguard qualification as part of your initial training, but still need to complete supervised training hours VenuesWest can assist by facilitating this.

The Selection Panel will consider the evidence gathered to determine which applicant or pool of applicants best meets the job requirements and are shortlisted to the interview stage. Use the CAR (Challenge, Action, Result) method to structure your responses:
    • Challenge: Describe the situation
    • Action: Explain what you did and how
    • Result: Share the outcomes of your actions.

    Other requirements listed in the JDF will be evaluated later in the selection process.

    Your CV should highlight information relevant to the job, including work experience, skills, education, and training.
  • Choosing your referees

    For all positions, you need to provide two current references, with at least one being your current or recent manager. Contact your referees beforehand to confirm their willingness to provide feedback.
    If a panel member is your referee, they must complete the referee report before accessing applications to avoid conflict of interest.
  • Overseas qualification

    If a qualification is required for the position and your qualification is from an institution outside Australia, you must obtain an Overseas Qualification assessment. This service is currently free and available to Australian residents at: http://www.migration.wa.gov.au/ services/overseas-qualification-unit
